Ramil Khantimirov, CEO and co-founder of Russia’s StormWall, called the Ukrainian IT Army the organizer of the attack on the State Services portal, which became known earlier on Thursday, June 23. His comment appeared at the disposal of Lenty.ru.

According to StormWall, the wave of DDoS attacks on the website of the State Service was a continuation of the wave of attacks on Russian universities, which began two weeks ago. According to the expert, attacks on universities are carried out by motivated criminals who are members of the “IT Army of Ukraine”.

“We see that most of the attacks come from America and Europe, and only a small number come from Russia,” said StormWall’s CEO. DDoS-attacks on the Derzhposlug website were organized by the same hackers of the IT Army of Ukraine, who are now attacking educational institutions in order to disrupt the admission campaign in universities, he said.

The expert noted that the purpose of such attacks is to disable the online resources of significant social facilities in the country. He explained that in the summer, sites and services that can be used to submit documents to universities become especially important, which is why hackers are beginning to actively attack them.

Hackers use both standard public tools, which were originally designed for testing, not for attacks, and special utilities, said Khantimirov. “In both cases, the tools can be obtained for free, you only need computing resources, which in most cases already have the attackers,” – said the expert.

It became known earlier on June 23 that the website of the State Service was subjected to mass cyberattacks. As Igor Lyapunov, Rostelecom’s vice president for information security, clarified, the attacks did not affect the service’s work. The Ministry of Finance stated that the attacks were organized by Ukraine.

On the same day, the Russian Ministry of Education and Science reported on hacker attacks on Russian universities. Representatives of the agency said that the attacks on universities continue and are quickly blocked by Russian specialists.
