The railway hospital in Lviv will be transferred to the medical university
Lviv Railway Clinical Hospital, which operates on the street. Ogienko in Lviv, will be transferred to the Ministry of Health, in particular, its specialized institution – the Medical University. The state non-profit enterprise “University Clinic” will be created on its basis. This was reported on June 16 by the website Lviv.Media.
As Ukrzaliznytsia board member Yevhen Lyashchenko explained to the publication, the work of railway hospitals has long been recognized as a non-core activity for Ukrzaliznytsia. According to him, the income of hospitals covers only 27.3% of costs, so they are unprofitable. Over the last two years, the annual loss of such medical institutions is UAH 0.8 billion, and the estimated loss in 2022 is UAH 1.46 billion.
Yevhen Lyashchenko added that about 30% of patients in departmental hospitals are railway workers. And only 3.5% of working railway workers use the services of these hospitals.
Ukrzaliznytsia considered selling medical facilities to a specialized investor, but this did not guarantee the preservation of the staff and put at risk the preservation of the hospital’s profile. Therefore, the transfer of the Lviv hospital to a specialized institute, which is part of the Ministry of Health, is considered to be the best option.
